Gerard Hillier to Coach Australia
Southern Peninsula Basketball Association’s Director of Coaching and Pathways, Gerard Hillier, has been announced as the Head Coach for Basketball Australia’s u18 Women’s 3×3 Team that will compete at the Youth Olympic Games in October.
Held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from the 6th of October 2018 – 18th of October 2018, the event will feature 20 Men’s and 20 Women’s 3×3 teams from 33 different countries.
“I’m really honoured by the appointment, it took me by surprise to be honest, however I am really looking forward to the journey ahead of us to the games in Argentina” stated Hillier. He added “I think any time one of our Sharks players or coaches are appointed or selected to go on to any form of next level basketball, it is a real acknowledgement of the work that our entire association has been putting in”
The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association family could not be filled with more pride for Gerard. His tireless work ethic throughout the years within our Association has seen it grow from strength to strength every year and we believe this is a fantastic reward that is well deserved.
The appointment follows an incredible 12-18 months for Hillier. The Basketball Victoria Country u18 Women, coached by Gerard, won the National Championship in 2017 and then followed that with a Bronze medal in 2018. Gerard also won the 2017 Owen Hughan Award for “Male Coach of The Year” within Basketball Victoria Country.
Recently, at a club level, our u16 Women who are coached by Gerard qualified for the National Junior Classic after not losing a game in their first 7 rounds of VJBL’s Victorian Championship division.
The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association wish Gerard and his team the best of luck for the Youth Olympics.
We will ensure to share information as it comes to hand regarding how you can follow Gerard and his team in Argentina.
